It’s been a busy few weeks for me with a bunch of loose music leaking out. New songs, remixes, collabs. Figured I’d throw them all in one post in case you missed any of it…Enjoy.

I remixed this Selena Gomez song for shits and giggles
Lemme give a little back story on this…
I was coming back to my crib in an uber the other day. The radio was playing and it was some random top 40 station. Song after song of inane bullshit kept playing to the point where I just kinda zoned out. Towards the end of my ride, a song came on that felt vaguely familiar. I knew this song…somehow. Turns out, it’s the new Selena Gomez song. It was familiar to be cause a)It samples The Talking heads b)I had actually heard it a few weeks earlier and noticed it as something somewhat interesting.
Let’s be honest, the song is cute. It’s catchy and not in an annoying way. It’s a…dare i say…GOOD song. I don’t fight that reality. I know it’s easy to turn your nose up at all pop music but, when someone does something right, you gotta give credit where it’s due.
So, yesterday, I’m sitting around and that song popped up somewhere and I thought “hmm…surely there is an acapella for this somewhere”. I was not wrong. One thing leads to another and I’m looking through beats that might work with the tempo and pitch. Well, I found one.
Remixing pop music is a lot of fun. Taking something that’s made to sound one way and turning it on it’s ear gives songs a new dynamic you’d never expect. In the case of “Bad liar”, I went with a super slow, sludgey fuzzed out psyche kinda feel. More Portishead than anything else.
It’s a slapped together job and the mix is, well, slapped together but fuck it. It’s summer and let me have my fun. Enjoy
So, here ya go:

New song! “Make America gape again”
Hi guys. Long time no speak. How you been? Oh word? That’s too bad. Same.
Anyway, As you may know, I’m working on my next full length album called “Funeral Balloons”. It’s in the mixing stages and should be done fairly soon. As to when it’s coming out, that’s a good question. I really can’t say yet but I’m hoping later spring/early summer.
In the meantime, here’s a song that WILL NOT be on the album. I’mma eventually put this (and my other newer song “Tinder in the time of cholera“) out on a free compilation record that will feature solo stuff as well as songs with rappers and singers.
So, yeah, enjoy…and MAKE AMERICA GAPE AGAIN!
Also, I’ll be announcing a bunch of tour dates in the US in the near future. Keep an eye out cause I’d love to see you.
Check out this new Baby Dayliner Song produced my meeeee
Baby Dayliner is a singer/songwriter/producer from NYC that’s been doing innovative shit for the last 15 plus years. He’s also mixed a few of my albums and played live instruments on them as well. He’s put out two amazing solo albums on Brassland records and it gearing up to drop some new music onto the world after some time off.
The first taste is a two sided ep shared with artist Fusilier. Dayliner has two songs. One is a song he never properly released called “You push I’ll go” . It’s been around for a while and is a personal favorite of mine. The new song “Don’t ghost me” is over one of my beats and it’s about the uncertainty of online dating. Something many of us can relate to, no doubt. Check it out and also look back into his older catalogue. You might not realize but some of your favorite rappers listen to this dude on the regular.
You can order the EP here:

I did a remix for Aesop’s song “Dorks” and other goodies…
In case you don’t know, Aesop just dropped his new album “The impossible Kid” on Rhymesayers last week. If you have missed it, you are fucking up cause it’s a really great album and should be ingested by all. You can get it all over the place but, if you’d like the two bonus tracks, I suggest you make the purchase from here: http://fifthelementonline.com/products/aesop-rock-the-impossible-kid
Yes, that’s right…BONUSSSSS. You get “Syrup” featuring Homeboy sandman and Open Mike Eagle as well as this remix i did for the song “Dorks”. That song you can also listen to streaming right here…
Oh hey…while i got you here…figured I’d just throw a bunch of new-ish remixes and random little joints I’ve done that are on my soundcloud page. Why not? Perhaps you missed one or two of these. Better late than never, right?
What’s poppin’ Soundcloud? Part 2
Keeping up with new music is hard. Especially when you’re old and kinda over everything. I don’t listen to the radio. I don’t use spotify. I don’t have people around who are up on shit to tell me about it. So, i generally find new music online via social media, social networks and….Soundcloud. It’s kinda my favorite cause it’s all stuff that typically isn’t out anywhere else. Suck on that, spotify!
So, every now and then, I like to go through my feed and share what I’ve been listening to with you guys. This is that.
Oh, one thing, before I post the music. If you read this blog , you know that Sparkmaster Tape is my shit. His two mixtapes are some of my favorite music made in the last 10 years. Well, he’s been M.I.A for over a year now. His twitter was silent until yesterday…
I’m assuming this means he’s back…and I’m fucking hyped. No new music…yet. But this gotta be a good sign.
Okay…now on to the music
Earl Sweatshirt
Earl posted three new songs. 2 are instrumental and this one has vocals. It’s dope. Definitely ready to hear some new Earl after this…
Asaad
This Philly Mc stays busy. I always find him engaging but, sometimes , his beat selection isn’t really up my alley. However, he has been dropping crazy joints on soundcloud lately and I’ve been liking what I’ve been hearing. These are just a taste. If you like what you hear, I suggest you did deeper cause he’s literally been putting up a song a day for a few weeks.
Fresh Daily
One of the more underrated underground heads out there. He’s been doing it for a while and continues to put out quality shit.
Your Old Droog
The Nu Shooz sample is very ill. It seems like Droog been enjoying rapping over some 80’s sounding tracks and , I can’t front, it’s been working out nicely for him.
Izzle mane feat. DP
I don’t know much about this one but it popped up in my feed and I like it. DP is dope.
Mick Jenkins
This is a smooth track. Jenkin’s continues to grow as an artist.
Little Shalimar- The rubble kings soundtrack
My Buddy Little Shalimar did a bang up job making the music for the Rubble Kings documentary.
The original score is crazy and this “music inspired by the movie” album is also awesome. I only posted a few tracks but check out the whole thing. New music from KA and Killer Mike. The album for even more on it.
What’s popping, Soundcloud?
As a musician on soundcloud, I often forget that it’s actually a source for good new music. Instead of looking at my stream, i just check in on my own comments , like and other pointless bullshit like that. Well, that’s my bad. selfish.
So, today, I wanted to the spotlight on some of the good stuff that’s been bubbling over there lately. You know, let you all hear the stuff that I’ve been listening to.
Gotta start it out with the #1 sports related song. Homeboy Sandman making all New Yorkers proud with this old school Mets Anthem
Then We got a ton of new Shirt joints. In case you don’t know, he’s been doing this thing where he makes songs with ANY producer who gives him $250 bucks. While this may seem like a cheap money scheme with a high probability for sucking it’s actually yielded some good results.
Here’s a now joint with Open Mike Eagle and Serengheti as the group Cavanaugh. Looks like Mike is making beats now too. sounds good, bro!
Your Old droog also stay busy. It feels like this dude drops a new song every week.
Philly rapper Asaad been making music for a while. He dropped a new 10 song album. Kinda mellow trappy stuff. I like some of it. Definitely good for the weed smoking set.
Then we got this new Michael Christmas song, which may be my favorite new thing I’ve heard in a while. The beat is hypnotic on some “93 til infinity” shit. Really excited for his new album.
Next up we got Prof. I’m actually late to the game on him but his shit is pretty awesome. He reminds me of older danny brown in a way. He did a joint with aesop on the beat recently that’s definitely pretty awesome.
And I’ll close this out with houston’s Sauce Walka, who made a fantastic Drake diss song a few weeks ago. Sauce is pretty crazy and , I’m guessing, not up the alley of most of the people who read this blog but I love him. If him and gunplay did an album together my life would be complete…
I made an “I can’t feel my face” remix for fun
In an effort to both amuse myself and stay sharp, I’ve been dabbling with some remixes of famous pop songs lately. A few weeks ago, it was “Bitch betta have my money” and now, it is The Weeknd’s mega hit “I can’t feel my face”. I can’t stress how fun these remixes are to do. Partially cause it’s just fun to play around with these types of vocals but also cause of the rag eit can bring out of purist music snobs. But ,Seriously. I would do only stuff like this if i had a choice cause I love taking a song and making it something very different.
Anyway, check it out…download it from soundcloud. Tell a friend.
Thanks again to Sam Woolley for the artwork. It’s a good look for me, no?
Some Soundcloud loosies
So, I’ve been working on music lately but nothing that will be put anytime soon. Every now and then, I like to throw some random shit up on soundcloud. You know, just to remind you guys that I’m still a breathing being. Over the last few months, I’ve put up a remix, a joke trap song and two old beats I made over a decade ago that I always liked but never did anything with. This post is just a means of me putting them all in one place (outside of soundcloud).
Peep dat…
If you like those old tracks, here’s a link to 15 installments of throwaway tracks I enver used, all made between 95-2004. Free beats, yo!
https://phatfriend.com/?s=throwaway+files&submit=Search
Also, I threw in a radio show I did where my Buddies Jer (Sir Jarlsberg) and Shannon (from the band Activator) played music and talked shit. The music ranges from stuff we like to an overview of my former group with jer Party Fun action committee to just a bunch of truly offensive songs you probably wouldn’t hear anywhere else. Enjoy!
Here’s a playlist of some rap I’ve been enjoying
I’ve been on Soundcloud for less than a year and , honestly, never used it beyond just posting my own songs. While on tour recently, I had some downtime and realized “oh wait…there’s some cool music on here to listen to!”. It didn’t hurt that the computer I travel with, when touring, doesn’t have most of my music on it. So, I decided to make a playlist of song that I found on soundcloud. Songs by people who aren’t me. Rappers I fuck with heavily like Tree, Your Old Droog, Jay Electronica, Sparkmaster Tape, Open Mike Eagle and Michael Christmas. Turns out, Soundlcoud is full of unreleased gems and rarities by all sorts of artists. Nice. So, here’s the playlist I made. Admittedly, it’s all over the place but think of it like an ipod on random.
Also, the songs range from new to old so this isn’t meant to be some cutting edge collection of music.
Also, while you’re there, don’t hesitate to peep my soundcloud page. It’s full of rarities and remixes , many of which are downloadbale for free. Go nuts.
While I got you here, you should also peep the awesome new song/video “Celebrity reduction prayer” by Open Mike Eagle. Dude just keeps getting better and better.
