Song of the day

Haven’t done this in a while and , honestly, I don’t have time to write shit today soooo….Here’s a song I’ve been bumping a lot lately. It’s actually from the summer but I’m late to the game as usual and heard it last week. Tree and twista on the same track? Yeah son…Just a warning, I have a feeling most of you will not like this. But, hey, such is life.

Have an opinion! Pick your favorite.

Every now and then, there are periods of time when a ton of good music seems to pop out of nowhere. Months can go by, with me listening to the same shit I had been forever then, all of sudden, a whole new crop of songs and albums for me to dig my teeth into appear. Not gonna front, soundcloud has really upped the ante on this cause it seems like artists I check for release a new song for the hell of it every month or so.
Anyway, I often like to take the temperature of what you guys are fucking with. So here are 7 songs I’ve been fucking with (many of the artists are favorites of mine you should be very familiar with if you follow this blog), in both video and soundcloud form. I’m curious what you like the most. There’s a poll after the songs and I know how much people like voicing their opinions online. Well, now is you chance. Peep them and lemme know.

Chicago might be one of the most versatile cities on earth , in terms of rap music. From conscious rap to pimp shit to a rich battle rapper history to drill music , it’s pretty much has all the bases covered.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know I’m a big fan of Tree. He’s a rapper/producer who’s been dropping quality music for a few years now. He is the creator of “Soul trap” which is pretty much soul samples infused with trap style drums. I’m a big fan cause he does it with simplicity and good taste. No crazy synthed out breakdowns, not masturbatory drum fills. Just solid samples with head nod beats under them.
His most recent project is a collaborative effort with fellow Chicago mc Vic Spencer. Spencer who , as a rapper, actually reminds me of Tree a little. They both have a growl to them. HE’s kinda like a mix between Tree and Khudjo from the Goodie Mobb. Whatever he is, I’m into it. Tree handles all the beats and Vic handles the rhymes. It’s a solid EP, in my opinion, but I’m curious what you guys think of it. Check it out… (I’d skip the first song, cause it’s an intro and not a good “First impression” of what’s really going on with the rest of the album)

So, what do you think?

Tree’s album “Trap Genius” Streaming!

I was gonna write some shit today but I’m jet lagged as a motherfucker and can’t put coherent thoughts together. Luckily for me, one of my favorite artists of the last few years , Tree, is streaming his new album on soundcloud. So, that makes for an easy post that involves limited brain power. Attention all bloggers, that’s who you make content!
Here’s his upcoming album “Trap Genius”. If you’re unfamiliar with Tree, I suggest you go back and check his Sunday school mix tapes. #2 , in particular, is one of my favorite albums of the last few years.
Anyway, peep this new shit…

Look at all this new music that came out recently!

It’s funny. About a week ago I was thinking “Man, I feel like there is not much to look forward to in rap in the near future”. Well, allow me to eat those words. In the past week 3 dope Ep’s by artists I like a lot have dropped. as well as a few other bits and pieces. So, as a good samaritan, I figured I’d just hip you to all of this, in case you haven’t been paying attention. These are all artists I’ve been championing on this site for a while now so it’s only right.

First up, Open Mike eagle dropped a new EP called “A special Episode of Ep”

Next up we got a new 11 song ep by Shirt (formally T-shirt). He’s not streaming the entire thing but here’s a first song off it:

Here’s a link to where you can get it (it’s $5 you cheap fucks): http://worksite.info/
As a little bonus here’s another track he did that isn’t on the ep:

Next we got a banging new EP By Your Old Droog. He just put some shit out so this came outta nowhere.

This is a one off by former Yay or nay subject Koreatown Oddity (and Ras G). Definitely feeling this one:

Lastly, we have an ep that came out a few weeks ago by Tree and Crack. Tree’s new album “Trap Genius” is apparently coming pretty soon but, until then, this should hold over he fans

Oh, and here’s a new song from Tree. I almost forgot:

Yay or Nay: This new Tree song

TREE-C-FOR-CHICAGO
One of my favorite albums of last year was Tree’s “Sunday School 2” mixtape. Full of awesome soulful beats with a slight southern twist and raps that bought about the feelings of listening to on older head just talking facts to whoever would listen.
Here are some examples:

Prior to that, I was only half sold on Tree. I thought his voice was a little grating. However, it all came together on that mixtape and , since then, I’ve been a huge fan. Well, it looks like he’s got a new EP dropping soon that Scion is putting out (The car company). He dropped a new song yesterday and it’s definitely a little different then his older stuff but, even without the soul samples, he manages to make a beat that almost sounds like it came form the 80’s work with his style. And his rapping stays evolving in a really cool direction.

My question to you is, what do you think, brah?

I posted a Tree song a month or two ago to mixed reactions. In fact, I wasn’t really sold on him fully at the time. While I still don’t think he’s the second coming of rap, I’ve certainly come around to his stuff more recently.
So, let’s try this again.
Chicago rapper who is somewhat gangster but not in an over the top way with beats that blend soul samples and trap like drums to great results. I like it. Perhaps you should too?
This is a joint off his new mixtape. Peep it.

Tree is a chicago based rapper with an interesting blend of styles going on. Aside from having a cool voice and rapping style that doesn’t really draw many comparisons, he also uses beats that seem to blend old school soul sampling with southern sounding drums. I’d be lying if I said i knew much about him. In fact, I’d be lying if I said I was even fully sold on him as an artist. But he’s been making mixtapes/albums for a while now and I think it’ safe to say he’s earned a chance in the spotlight.
I’m curious what you guys think of his. Peep this song…and watch these videos…
You like? Yes? No? Maybe so?
