Pick a song, Any song!

Every now and then I like to test the temperature of what you guys are feelings out there. I randomly collect 8 songs I’m fucking with and see what you like best…via the power of voting. Yes, it’s a democracy up in this bitch.
So, without saying anything about the songs or trying to sway your votes with my opinions, i present your options.
All I ask is that you give every song a chance and don’t vote based on a name or cause you assume what you may or may not like the best and don’t even need to check the rest. Also, you may vote for more than one song. Have at it…

Every now and then, there are periods of time when a ton of good music seems to pop out of nowhere. Months can go by, with me listening to the same shit I had been forever then, all of sudden, a whole new crop of songs and albums for me to dig my teeth into appear. Not gonna front, soundcloud has really upped the ante on this cause it seems like artists I check for release a new song for the hell of it every month or so.
Anyway, I often like to take the temperature of what you guys are fucking with. So here are 7 songs I’ve been fucking with (many of the artists are favorites of mine you should be very familiar with if you follow this blog), in both video and soundcloud form. I’m curious what you like the most. There’s a poll after the songs and I know how much people like voicing their opinions online. Well, now is you chance. Peep them and lemme know.

What’s popping, Soundcloud?

As a musician on soundcloud, I often forget that it’s actually a source for good new music. Instead of looking at my stream, i just check in on my own comments , like and other pointless bullshit like that. Well, that’s my bad. selfish.
So, today, I wanted to the spotlight on some of the good stuff that’s been bubbling over there lately. You know, let you all hear the stuff that I’ve been listening to.

Gotta start it out with the #1 sports related song. Homeboy Sandman making all New Yorkers proud with this old school Mets Anthem

Then We got a ton of new Shirt joints. In case you don’t know, he’s been doing this thing where he makes songs with ANY producer who gives him $250 bucks. While this may seem like a cheap money scheme with a high probability for sucking it’s actually yielded some good results.

Here’s a now joint with Open Mike Eagle and Serengheti as the group Cavanaugh. Looks like Mike is making beats now too. sounds good, bro!

Your Old droog also stay busy. It feels like this dude drops a new song every week.

Philly rapper Asaad been making music for a while. He dropped a new 10 song album. Kinda mellow trappy stuff. I like some of it. Definitely good for the weed smoking set.

Then we got this new Michael Christmas song, which may be my favorite new thing I’ve heard in a while. The beat is hypnotic on some “93 til infinity” shit. Really excited for his new album.

Next up we got Prof. I’m actually late to the game on him but his shit is pretty awesome. He reminds me of older danny brown in a way. He did a joint with aesop on the beat recently that’s definitely pretty awesome.

And I’ll close this out with houston’s Sauce Walka, who made a fantastic Drake diss song a few weeks ago. Sauce is pretty crazy and , I’m guessing, not up the alley of most of the people who read this blog but I love him. If him and gunplay did an album together my life would be complete…

Look at all this new music that came out recently!

new shit ladies
It’s funny. About a week ago I was thinking “Man, I feel like there is not much to look forward to in rap in the near future”. Well, allow me to eat those words. In the past week 3 dope Ep’s by artists I like a lot have dropped. as well as a few other bits and pieces. So, as a good samaritan, I figured I’d just hip you to all of this, in case you haven’t been paying attention. These are all artists I’ve been championing on this site for a while now so it’s only right.

First up, Open Mike eagle dropped a new EP called “A special Episode of Ep”

Next up we got a new 11 song ep by Shirt (formally T-shirt). He’s not streaming the entire thing but here’s a first song off it:

Here’s a link to where you can get it (it’s $5 you cheap fucks): http://worksite.info/
As a little bonus here’s another track he did that isn’t on the ep:

Next we got a banging new EP By Your Old Droog. He just put some shit out so this came outta nowhere.

This is a one off by former Yay or nay subject Koreatown Oddity (and Ras G). Definitely feeling this one:

Lastly, we have an ep that came out a few weeks ago by Tree and Crack. Tree’s new album “Trap Genius” is apparently coming pretty soon but, until then, this should hold over he fans

Oh, and here’s a new song from Tree. I almost forgot:

No Message By Your Old Droog and Rast RFC

It’s fun when two rappers you like come together out of nowhere. In this case, we have Rast and Your Old Droog. Two guys I recently did “Yay or Nay” columns about. Both from NYC and both are getting some shine right now. While Rast has a very interesting story (read about it here) I’d say the man of the hour is Y.O.D.
Why? Well, it’s cause everyone thinks he’s Nas. Literally. People have a theory that this is some sort of side project and Nas is all fucking with us. On paper, this sounds ridiculous. Why would Nas do that? But, when you step back, it would seem like a lot of signs point to this being the truth. His voice sounds A LOT like him. He’s affiliated with Mass Appeal (Nas and Former Ego Trip Founder Sasha Jenkins have direct ties to Mass Appeal). He’s certainly playing into the rumors too. Or, I should say, some other people are. Someone made a fake twitter account that seemed very real and started both Posting YOD songs as well as tweeting quotes from Nas albums.

Weird.
But, here’s the thing. He’s not Nas. At least I’m 99% sure he’s not. How do I know this? Well, I’ll start with the soft evidence. While his voice is very similar to Nas, his flow and lyrics don’t sound anything like Nas. So, just off the basis of an ear test, to me, he’s not Nas. That’s not enough though, right? Well, how about , prior to him getting a little shine he had all sorts of videos on Youtube. Actual music videos that show his face. This face:
YourOldDroog
This blew my mind the most cause, honestly, I’m totally racist when it comes to white guy rap voices and thought there was no way on earth Your Old Droog wasn’t a black dude. If the videos (which I saw before they were taken down) he’s more of an arab or a chechen. I can’t even tell. But , one thing is for sure, he’s not Nas. Still not enough evidence?
Well, how bout this article:
http://www.complex.com/music/2014/06/your-old-droog-is-not-nas

So, that’s my case. The truth will all be revealed in NYC on september 3rd when he plays a show. I might not be around for that show but I’m sure phone cameras will be there to record the happenings. If you’re curious or simply wanna see him rock (After all, the thing getting lost in all this is that he’s pretty fucking dope, despite the Nas similarities), here’s a flyer for that show. Oh, and Rast is playing that night as well. Pretty great line up.

This one is a bit of a mystery.
All I know about him is he comes from Brooklyn and he kinda sounds like Nas. Now, this is not to say he’s biting Nas. It’s his voice. Can’t really control that. But I searched around the internet and came up with nothing about this guy. Aside from his age (24) and his home (Coney Island) he’s managed to pretty much stay off the grid. Well, all that aside, he can rap. In fact, he can rap very well. The Nas thing will probably hang over his head (Much like the ghostface thing did with action Bronson) but if he keep coming with songs like the one below, hopefully, all that noise will fade.

So, what do you think?
