LoDeck is a dude I’ve know for years who I’ve worked with more than I think people realize. Born in Russia, he came over the America shortly after the explosion in Chernobyl. I could be remembering wrong but I believe he told me he saw the smoke billowing as he was be driven away from where he lived. Real shit, bro.
Anyway, Deck has always been an under appreciated MC. I’d suggest you look into his shit if you haven’t heard it. His album’s “Bash It”, “Dream Dentistry” and “Postcards from the 3rd rock” are all dope and there are more whose names I’m forgetting that are also good. I swear, I think I have early Alzheimer’s.
I’m not sure what album this song is from but it’s a great introduction to him. It’s pretty much his “how I became the way I am” song. Considering Deck is a tad nutty, it explains a lot. I love that kinda shit. I also love the beat (Which I didn’t make) that flips a nice “Cry me a river” sample. Good shit.
this dude is very dope
i fully support this post. Deck has been slept on
this shit’s incredible. you always come through with recommending good music, sophomore slump from skipp coon and mr nick changed my life. I’m definitely looking into lodecks work
behold is one of my favorite underground records
I keep asking LoDeck to post lyrics up to all his work so I can at least accurately misinterprete the meanings instead of analyzing the wrong words. I emailed him what I thought Demon Strait was all about.
I had some friends put me on to LoDeck a few years back and I was embarrassed how late I was. The work you two did together was insane. In a prefect world you guy’s drop another epic series of tracks. I thought your production was flawless on that album.
I tired to pick a favorite but it turns out I just have 4 specifics. Demon Strait when I wanna stab hobos. Still Cambodia when I wanna drop kick nuns. Beautiful Disease when I wanna set alligators on fire. And On A Path when I wanna drive my truck around and act like it a big black cadillac. Seriously, one of my top 5 albums of all time. I wish I could get more music like that. Dope shit.
Okay… the reason I think cats like Deck need to post the lyrics AND EXPLAIN them, is because basic minded cats can get it really wrong. This is a message I sent him and he laughed because I was so far off from what he was actually trying to say. And again, Block’s production was insane. Here’s what i thought On A Path was all about. He corrected me on his blog:
I keep referencing Lodeck. In my song The Ghost, he is who I am making reference to. He has a song called On A Path. Initially when you hear it, you won’t understand it initially. But just listen to the first verse. What he is saying is if you put your heart into something, it will get respect. Just don’t expect much else…
If you can’t understand what he is saying, he is basically talking about Hip Hop and what is happening regarding people who want to be super stars. When you get that, the whole song makes total sense. The shit is crazy. Naturally a lot of this stuff is open to interpretation but here is mine.
Reading the sky for writings on the ground
Deciding who gets to stay down
The focus blurry
Who’s that looking down your people hole
Don’t you worry because
Concepts you put your soul in
Infinitely buzz
Its not felt to my numb self
With a penny to my name
But a whole lot of unclaimed wealth
And this the whole point of the chase
From the time the sun squirts up
To the moment the moon shows face
While tycoons clones spades
Sewer to sewer
Typhoons blow the roof of this mother
You are ANUS Famous Lamest aimless
Who say this that and everything else
But say that same on a profit
Creating weirdos
Wishing all of us were ones and zeros
In a magical equation
Reading the sky for writings on the ground
Deciding who gets to stay down
If you want to be a super star, you want to get signed to a major label. That would make the label the “sky”.
Who’s that looking down your people hole
Don’t you worry because
Concepts you put your soul in
Infinitely buzz
Don’t worry about who is watching you. Who loves and hates you. If you put your soul into your work, it will live on forever through others who identify with it.
While tycoons clones spades
Sewer to sewer
Typhoons blow the roof of this mother
You are ANUS Famous Lamest aimless
Who say this that and everything else
But say that same on a profit
Real dope emcees blow the roof off while record labels just clone lame assholes for the sake of profit.
There’s no future in repeating the past
It doesn’t make sense to repeat what has been done. That is why there isn’t more than one Nas, Jay Z, Biggie, Big L, etc. You will not have the success they had by repeating what they already did.
Not saying what I’m sayin’ is for everybody
You can’t analyze the sky if you don’t know why water’s muddy
In fact
Some prefer to think life is just a party
So they give it way now
But when you gotta pay
Don’t that make it a meal now
Not everyone is going to like what he does or his style because some people can’t even understand simple Hip Hop so there is no way they will understand complex Hip Hop concepts and styles like his.
And he’s got new audio up on Bandcamp….

Nice, thanks for the radiation exposure. That’s good shit. Are you sure you didn’t make that beat? Maybe a tad more repetative than one of yours and more harmonica…
Yeah, I definitely didn’t make it. It’s dope as fuck though. That little high pitched instrument that comes in towards the end of the verses is my shit.
Are LoDeck and Despot still cool? I really like that “Cynical Bastards” song they did, and I’d love to hear a joint album from them on some Cuban Linx type shit. With Blockhead beats, of course.
as far as I know they’re still cool. i think they’re both just kinda doing their own thing. That kinda shit happens all the time.
I cant even find this dude
