Soundcloud messing with my shit…So i got free stuff for you.

So, every now and then, I get bored and amuse myself by remixing popular pop/rap songs. Often, the goal is to flip them on their ear and give people a different perspective on a song they , most likely, are completely tired of hearing. I gotta admit, I do generally like all the songs I remix though. You’re never too cool for a catchy pop song, breh.
Anyway, i got this email today from the good people at Soundcloud

As you can see…They got me (as is expected, legally) and threatened a 3 strike rule which would cancel my soundcloud. So, being the obedient pussy that I am, I preemptively deleted all the pop music remixes I’ve made to assure I don’t get the axe from soundcloud. While that’s a bummer for me (Soundcloud is an ideal place to post that kinda shit, outside the whole “It’s illegal” aspect) I figure I might as well throw them all in a folder and leave them here for any of you guys who might not have them.

As an added bonus, I remixed the Migos hit “Bad and Boujee” just now (literally just did it in the last half hour) cause, why not? It’s a curveball version , for sure. It’s in the folder below but, if you just want that song alone (or to just listen to is stream), here’s a link to that:

So, here’s a little gift from me to you…It’s not much but it’s better than nothing, right? Enjoy!

1)Bad and Boujee- Migoshead

2)Bad Liar Remix- Selena Gomezhead

3)Classic man Remix- Jidennahead

4)Hot N#gga- Bobby shmurdahead

5)I can’t feel my face- Weekndhead

6)Panda Remix- Desiignerhead

I remixed this Selena Gomez song for shits and giggles

Lemme give a little back story on this…
I was coming back to my crib in an uber the other day. The radio was playing and it was some random top 40 station. Song after song of inane bullshit kept playing to the point where I just kinda zoned out. Towards the end of my ride, a song came on that felt vaguely familiar. I knew this song…somehow. Turns out, it’s the new Selena Gomez song. It was familiar to be cause a)It samples The Talking heads b)I had actually heard it a few weeks earlier and noticed it as something somewhat interesting.
Let’s be honest, the song is cute. It’s catchy and not in an annoying way. It’s a…dare i say…GOOD song. I don’t fight that reality. I know it’s easy to turn your nose up at all pop music but, when someone does something right, you gotta give credit where it’s due.
So, yesterday, I’m sitting around and that song popped up somewhere and I thought “hmm…surely there is an acapella for this somewhere”. I was not wrong. One thing leads to another and I’m looking through beats that might work with the tempo and pitch. Well, I found one.
Remixing pop music is a lot of fun. Taking something that’s made to sound one way and turning it on it’s ear gives songs a new dynamic you’d never expect. In the case of “Bad liar”, I went with a super slow, sludgey fuzzed out psyche kinda feel. More Portishead than anything else.
It’s a slapped together job and the mix is, well, slapped together but fuck it. It’s summer and let me have my fun. Enjoy
So, here ya go:

Blockhead live 2012

So, a common question people ask me at shows is “Hey, are you gonna upload this set anywhere?” To which I typically respond “Nope” cause, in 2017, my live show is really one of the last ways I can rely on making money as a musician. So, you know, I gotta keep my shows exclusive so people have a reason to come see me play. It may be flawed logic but I’ve always ran with that. Welllllll…Perhaps I’m getting softer in my old age but I figured I change my ways…kinda. I happened upon a recording of an old set of mine. I don’t know where it was from and the only clue was “2012”. It’s a little under an hour but it gives you an idea of what I typically do live. Mixing and matching parts of all my records, as well as throwing in stuff from all over. Soul, hip hop, even country music. Nothing is out of bounds. I’ll also add that the levels and quality of the mix aren’t perfect (I didn’t record it so I didn’t get to fine tune any aspect of any of how it sounds). So keep that in mind if the levels seem iffy at times.
So, yeah, this ones for all the people who’ve been asking over the years. My hope is that you’ll hear this, think it’s cool and come see me do it lives sometime. So, lemme roll these dice right quick…
Enjoy!

Surprise! Some new music!

So, over the last few years I’ve been quietly working on a fun side project with De wolfe records. For those who aren’t familiar, De wolfe is a Music library that has been supplying music to tv, radio and film for almost 100 years. When you say the words “library record” to a sample based producer, you will notice their eyes light up. This is because these kinds of records have been the source of endless amazing samples for many of your favorite producers. In my case, the good people at De Wolfe were kind enough to open their vaults to me and use their older material to make my very own library record. Now, to be clear, there aren’t songs like you’ll hear on my albums. These are more just beats that fit a mood and would work well with song placement. That said, it’s still very much in my lane. If you’ve ever heard my first release “Blockheads broke beats” on Mush records, this is more along those lines than anything else I’ve released. De wolfe (Via it’s new label BiteHard) is just streaming it now on their site and it will eventually be for sale/DL. So check it out. It’s got all sorts of moods for you to sink your teeth into.

Also, while I got you here, I’m pleased to announce that the pre-order link for the Vinyl release of “Uncle Tony’s coloring book” (on Young Heavy Souls records) is up…so, if you’ve been waiting to get that album on vInyl all these years, the time is NIGH! It’s a limited run so I’d advise to get on sooner than later, before they’re all gone.

New song! “Make America gape again”

sad-eagle

Hi guys. Long time no speak. How you been? Oh word? That’s too bad. Same.
Anyway, As you may know, I’m working on my next full length album called “Funeral Balloons”. It’s in the mixing stages and should be done fairly soon. As to when it’s coming out, that’s a good question. I really can’t say yet but I’m hoping later spring/early summer.
In the meantime, here’s a song that WILL NOT be on the album. I’mma eventually put this (and my other newer song “Tinder in the time of cholera“) out on a free compilation record that will feature solo stuff as well as songs with rappers and singers.
So, yeah, enjoy…and MAKE AMERICA GAPE AGAIN!

Also, I’ll be announcing a bunch of tour dates in the US in the near future. Keep an eye out cause I’d love to see you.

Yes, I do still work with rappers

084
I’ve been on tour the majority of the last few months and a question that keeps coming up from random people is “Are you ever gonna work with mc’s again?” to which i reply “Actually…”
Turns out, I’ve been making tons of music with rappers over the last 4 years or so and a lot of people haven’t really noticed. Granted, I can’t really knock them for that cause the projects haven’t been huge name artists but more rappers I personally fuck with as a person and a fan. Labors of love and respect. I figure I might as well just give the heads up to all those asking cause there is , in fact, lots of music I’ve done with MC’s. Entire albums produced by me, in fact. As well as some one offs here and there.
I’ll also add, I’m working on a compilation album that I plan dropping before my next full length that will feature rappers, singers and instrumental songs. It will be a free release too so get your wallets out and then immediately put them back in your pocket.
Anyway, here’s a quick refresher course of the albums I’ve done with rappers. Included are links but know that, if you wanna support and buy the album and the website i direct you to is not one you typically use, all these albums (with exception of the Ep’s with Illogic) are available EVERYWHERE digitally. I-tunes, amazon, etc as well spotify for streaming.
So, let’s start with Illogic.
Illogic is an incredibly gifted mc from Columbus, Ohio who I’ve been down with since before Def Jox existed. He worked with Aesop , as well as Atmosphere, Blueprint and ton of other talents. A few year back he hit me up asked if I wanted to do a project together and I jumped at the opportunity. Turns out…we were both in highly prolific points in our lives and we churned out an full length album and 3 Ep’s. So, we got MAD music together including two lead up EP’s to the full length and prologue EP we dropped afterwards.

Next up, We got Billy Woods. Woods is a brooklyn based MC I was a huge fan of before i even met him. We got linked up through friends in common and immediately hit it off. We made the album “Dour Candy” soon after that and are currently finishing up another album together (Mostly produced by me but with a special guest producer on a couple tracks) that should be out next year.

Next we got Marq Spekt. He’s originally from philly and a guy I’ve been a fan of since the early 2000’s. He was one of those dudes that everyone I knew knew but I had never met before. I forget how it happened but we linked up and decided to do an album together out of mutual respect and admiration for each others work. We got two albums together on HipNott Records , the newest actually dropped pretty recently

There’s also a few loosies I’ve done with various artists over the years you might have missed:
Lice (Aesop & Homeboy Sandman)- Environmental studies

Open Mike eagle- Billy’s Quagmire

Red Pill- Darlin’

Sum- Oblivion

Premrock- Criminal Childish

Premrock- Let me see your tongue

Sir Jarlsberg Ft. Aesop, lateef, Blockhead, Kimya dawson, Baby Dayliner and more- All’s Faire

Googie- Big mouth arcade

Googie- Googie Architecture

And shit…while I got you here, did you know I made an album as a part of a group called The Mighty Jones? It’s me on beats, two female vocalists and live guitar and bass. If you’re not so much a hip hop fan but like my beats and singing…this one should speak to your soul. This song in the video below is actually not even released but will be soon.

So, there you have. I may have even forgotten a few things but that’s the answer to anyone who’s wondered if I still make music with other people. A resounding yes with much more to come.

New Song! “Tinder in the time of Cholera”

rs_560x415-140917143530-1024-tinder-logo-ms_-091714_copy

So, I’ve been making a lot of new music lately. A new full length album called “Funeral balloons”, a new album with Billy Woods and a soon to be free album which will feature instrumental tracks as well as songs with vocals. I’m getting tired of sitting on all this music so I figured I’d just plop something down here today. This is a track that I plan to drop on the free album. It’s not mixed or mastered so…you know…keep that in mind.
Just wanted to remind you guys…I’m still here and shit!
Enjoy!
